NBA Trade Rumors Heat Up This Offseason

As the NBA offseason approaches, there are indications of a potential trading frenzy, which may be fueled by the limited options in free agency combined with the number of teams looking to improve after disappointing seasons. With the absence of impactful players and significant spenders in the market, teams may lean towards trade opportunities to bolster their rosters. The recent trend of high-profile players switching teams has made previously untouchable assets suddenly appear more available.
The Los Angeles Clippers have experienced the potential synergy between James Harden and Kawhi Leonard during their time on the court. They posted an impressive record of 21-6 while this duo played alongside Ivica Zubac and Norman Powell, showcasing a strong net rating. Following their playoff exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, the Clippers are reportedly eyeing a busy summer, according to Jake Fischer from The Stein Line, who highlighted that rival teams perceive L.A. as active in the trade market. A key focus for the team will be resolving Harden's contract situation, which includes a player option worth $36.3 million for the next season. Aligning his deal with Leonard’s longer-term contract may be a strategic move for the Clippers, who are also looking to enhance their three-point shooting and bolster their supporting cast to maximize their championship window.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been exploring their options to improve their frontcourt depth, with interest reportedly extending to Onyeka Okongwu of the Atlanta Hawks. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin mentioned that the Lakers reached out to the Hawks prior to their consideration of trading for Mark Williams. Given the challenges the Lakers faced in their postseason, particularly regarding the void left by Anthony Davis, addressing their interior presence is a priority. Although Okongwu may be a desirable player for the Lakers, the Hawks view him as a crucial part of their roster, thereby implying that significant assets would be necessary to acquire him.
