Naz Reid Considers Bench Role as Timberwolves Future Remains Uncertain

Veteran center Naz Reid has indicated that he is not dismissing the possibility of returning to the Minnesota Timberwolves next season in a bench role, despite acknowledging that he views himself as a starter. Reid emphasized his confidence in his abilities, stating, 'Yes, 100 percent. 100 percent,' when asked about his perspective on playing as a starter in the NBA. He also noted the necessity of sacrifices for team success, saying, 'Sometimes, if you want to be in a winning position, sometimes you might have to sacrifice.'
Reid faces a deadline of June 30 to make a decision regarding his $15 million player option with the Timberwolves for the upcoming season. Last season, he achieved career highs by averaging 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 80 regular-season games. During the playoffs, he contributed with averages of 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 15 games, as the Timberwolves were eliminated for the second consecutive year in the Western Conference Finals.
Much like his teammate Anthony Edwards, who expressed optimism about the team's prospects for the next season following their Game 5 elimination against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Reid conveyed confidence in the Timberwolves' ability to progress further next year. 'We didn't finish how we wanted to, but like I said before, we're in a winning situation. We've got a lot of guys who come in and compete, including myself,' said Reid. As the Timberwolves look ahead, they will have several critical player decisions to navigate, particularly with Reid, Julius Randle, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker potentially entering free agency this summer.
