Micah Parsons Enthusiastically Welcomes Trevon Diggs to the Packers as Playoff Push Intensifies

Parsons Celebrates Diggs' Return to NFL Playoff Contenders
Micah Parsons is revelling in a reunion with Trevon Diggs, following the Green Bay Packers' acquisition of the veteran cornerback. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Diggs was claimed on waivers by the Packers just a day after the Dallas Cowboys announced they had waived him.
Diggs, who was in the third season of a lucrative five-year, $97 million extension signed in the summer of 2023, had spent four seasons alongside Parsons in Dallas from 2021 to 2024. Their bond was forged when both were drafted in consecutive years; Diggs, a second-round pick in 2020, and Parsons, taken No. 12 overall in 2021. Together, they formed a formidable defensive duo that contributed to the Cowboys' impressive success over the years.
Strong Defensive Legacy
During their tenure together, the Cowboys won 12 games for three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023, consistently ranking in the top seven for points allowed per game. Both players earned All-Pro first-team honors in 2021, marking the first time since DeMarcus Ware in 2011 that two Cowboys defensive players made the prestigious team.
Despite the success, the offseason featured a public contract dispute that saw Parsons traded to the Packers on August 28 and rewarded with a four-year, $188 million extension.
A Need for Depth as Playoffs Approach
Meanwhile, Trevon Diggs is expected to bolster a Packers secondary that is currently facing depth concerns as they head into the postseason. Head coach Matt LaFleur revealed to reporters that Nate Hobbs is unlikely to return this season due to a knee injury, while Kamal Hadden has suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
With the Packers having signed Jaylin Simpson and Shemar Bartholomew from the practice squad earlier, it remains uncertain if Diggs, who recently played in the Cowboys' Christmas Day victory against the Washington Commanders, will be ready to take the field for the regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers have secured the No. 7 seed in the NFC, and they may choose to prioritize caution with their starters heading into the wild-card round, where they will be matched up against either the Chicago Bears or the Philadelphia Eagles.
