Miami Dolphins Set to Part Ways with Tyreek Hill After Season-Ending Injury

Miami Dolphins Prepare for Life Without Tyreek Hill
The Miami Dolphins are reportedly poised to release wide receiver Tyreek Hill before the commencement of the next league year in March 2026, according to league sources as reported by CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. This decision comes following Hill's unfortunate dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments suffered during a catch in the third quarter of the Dolphins' 27-21 victory over the New York Jets.
At 31 years old, Hill's injury will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season, marking a significant blow to the Dolphins’ offensive lineup. Currently, he has one year left on a revised three-season, $90 million contract with the team. Despite this setback, Hill remains eager to return, as indicated by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who expressed hope of negotiating a future with the Dolphins.
Rosenhaus conveyed earlier this week, “We would love to get together with them after the season and figure something out that works for both sides and continue his career here in Miami. There's no reason why we can't. We will roll up our sleeves on our end. And if the Dolphins are willing, we will find a number that works for everyone.”
The Dolphins have the opportunity to save a substantial $36 million on the salary cap by designating Hill as a post-June 1 cut; however, this would still incur a dead cap hit of $15.9 million, per Over the Cap.
Since joining the Dolphins from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, Hill has made a significant impact. He recorded 119 receptions for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns in his inaugural season, followed by an impressive 117 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. The 2024 season saw him contend with a wrist ligament issue, limiting his performance to 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns. After undergoing surgery last offseason, he was cleared for the current year, where he had caught 21 passes for 265 yards and a touchdown before his injury.
With Hill's future in Miami now uncertain, the Dolphins must rally without him as they look ahead to their upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
