Jhoan Duran Confirms He’s Fit After Scary Foot Injury During Game

Jhoan Duran's Quick Recovery Gives Phillies a Boost
In a tense moment on Friday, Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran was carted off the field after taking a comebacker off his right foot, raising concerns among fans and teammates alike. However, Duran reassured everyone on Saturday that he feels "100 percent" and is ready to compete against the Washington Nationals.
During the ninth inning of the Phillies' 6-2 win over the Nationals, a ground ball hit by Washington's Paul DeJong struck Duran's foot, ricocheting into foul territory for a single. Although Duran initially attempted to chase down the ball, he began limping as he neared the foul line. Team trainers promptly attended to him, and he was soon taken off the field in a bullpen cart.
Fortunately, X-rays on Duran's foot revealed no serious injuries. The team had planned further evaluations on Saturday, but early indications show that he has avoided a significant setback. "He ran like a shot to retrieve the ball," said Phillies manager Rob Thomson, who provided insights into Duran’s condition post-game. "Once he got there, I think the adrenaline wore off and the pain set in. But before the cart came out, he said, 'I actually feel better, I think I can walk over to the dugout.'" Thomson added that they chose to use the cart to ensure Duran avoided navigating the steps back to the locker room.
Duran, who joined the Phillies shortly before the MLB trade deadline, has been a valuable asset for the team. In his time since the trade, he has not allowed a run in four innings and boasts a perfect 4-for-4 record in save opportunities. With a season ERA of 1.86, 56 strikeouts, and 20 saves in 54 appearances, Duran has proven himself to be an essential component of the Phillies' bullpen. As he continues to recover, fans can look forward to seeing him contribute further to the team’s success this season.
