Ja Morant Set to Return from Injury Against Trail Blazers
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is anticipated to make his return to the court against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, following an eight-game absence due to a hip injury. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Morant, who has been sidelined since November 6 after suffering injuries in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers, will be ready to contribute once again.
During the matchup against the Lakers, Morant sustained a 'posterior hip subluxation without dislocation' along with 'multiple associated Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.' After leaving the game midway through the third quarter due to an awkward landing while attempting an alley-oop, the Grizzlies initially listed him as doubtful to return because of a hamstring issue. Three days later, the organization classified his condition as week-to-week, hinting at a longer recovery period.
This season marks the second consecutive year in which Morant's availability has been hampered. Last year, he played only nine games due to a suspension and a season-ending shoulder injury. In the first eight games of the current season, Morant averaged 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from beyond the arc. His career averages stand at 22.4 points on 47.1 percent shooting. As he enters his sixth season with the Grizzlies, Morant's performance will be crucial for Memphis as they aim for their first appearance in the Western Conference Finals since 2013.
