Eagles Acquire Cornerback Jakorian Bennett from Raiders

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles made a strategic addition to their secondary by acquiring cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Eagles traded defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV to the Raiders as part of this deal. Bennett, who has started 11 games over the past two seasons with the Raiders, will be expected to bolster Philadelphia’s defensive lineup, particularly in a competitive position battle at cornerback.
Bennett was selected by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, he made four starts and followed that up with a seven-start appearance in his second season. His performance has shown promise, especially when healthy, as he recorded 26 tackles and eight passes defended in the 2024 season. Notably, Pro Football Focus reported that Bennett allowed a low passer rating of 62.4 when targeted, alongside an impressive figure of just 9.8 yards per reception, indicating his effectiveness in coverage.
In exchange, the Raiders are looking to enhance their defensive capabilities with Booker, who served primarily as a rotational defensive lineman for the Eagles. Following the release of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on July 24, Booker's presence could provide a much-needed boost to the Raiders’ interior defensive line. Drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round in 2022, Booker appeared in 10 games as a rookie before spending the 2023 season on the Eagles' practice squad. In 2024, he contributed with 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and one sack while representing Philadelphia.
