Dallas Stars to Face Edmonton Oilers in Western Conference Finals

The Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers are set to face each other in the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year. Thomas Harley secured the series victory for the Stars with an overtime goal, leading to a 2-1 triumph over the Winnipeg Jets in Game 6 of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs. This victory propels the Stars into a matchup against the Oilers, with the winner earning a trip to the Stanley Cup Final.
The pathway to the Conference Finals began with a tense Game 6 at the American Airlines Center. The Stars experienced an early setback as Tyler Seguin squandered an open-net opportunity midway through the first period. Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, a Vezina Trophy candidate, showcased his skills by thwarting several chances, maintaining a scoreless tie through the first period. In the second period, Mark Scheifele opened the scoring for the Jets with his first goal of the playoffs, remarkable given that he played shortly after receiving sad news regarding his father's passing. Jets head coach Scott Arniel conveyed Scheifele's sentiments, indicating that participating in Game 6 was in line with what his father would have wished.
The Stars responded six minutes later, with Sam Steel netting his inaugural goal of the postseason to equalize the score. The third period featured outstanding goaltending on both sides, as Hellebuyck denied a close-range shot from Mikko Rantanen, while Stars netminder Jake Oettinger made a spectacular save on Mason Appleton. In a dramatic turn of events, Steel drew a penalty with just 14.8 seconds remaining in regulation, enabling the Stars to enter overtime with a man advantage. Harley capitalized on this opportunity, scoring the series-clinching goal just 1:33 into extra time. It is noteworthy that the Jets concluded the game without Josh Morrissey, who left in the second period due to an injury sustained during a collision. With this victory, the Stars have reached three consecutive conference finals, a notable achievement, yet they seek to alter the trend of not competing for the Stanley Cup. The recent acquisition of Rantanen could prove crucial in their anticipated showdown with the Oilers.
