Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Search Begins Following Mike McCarthys Departure
The Dallas Cowboys are currently in search of a new head coach following the departure of Mike McCarthy earlier this week. The team's strategy regarding this coaching vacancy remains somewhat unclear as reports suggest that owner Jerry Jones is undertaking a more personal approach to the search.
According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, Jones has been making calls and exploring various options. Notably, he has reportedly not yet reached out to Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury, or Steve Sarkisian for the position. There are also mentions of Pete Carroll and Jon Gruden as potential candidates, although details about Jones's communication with these individuals have not been confirmed.
One name that has drawn considerable attention is Deion Sanders, the head coach at the University of Colorado. Slater emphasized that the interest from Jones in Sanders is genuine, yet uncertainty surrounds Sanders's willingness to leave his current program. It has been noted that Sanders enjoys significant autonomy and support at Colorado, which may conflict with the expectations set by Jones, especially given McCarthy's previous need to streamline his own staff. Furthermore, the financial aspect is also a consideration; Sanders has an $8 million buyout clause in his contract, which could pose a barrier to his hiring.
