Connor Bedard Injured in Last-Second Faceoff, Will Miss Upcoming Game

Chicago Blackhawks Center Connor Bedard Suffers Injury
In a heartbreaking turn of events for the Chicago Blackhawks, center Connor Bedard is set to miss at least one game following a right shoulder injury sustained during a game against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night. During the final seconds of the match, Bedard was involved in a faceoff that resulted in him taking a cross-check from Blues forward Brayden Schenn, leading to a fall on the ice and visible pain.
Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill described the incident as a "freak accident" and confirmed that Bedard would not be participating in the immediate game scheduled against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. "He won't play tomorrow," Blashill remarked. Though further assessments will take place over the weekend, he noted that more information would likely be available by Monday.
Prior to his injury, the talented center had been having an outstanding season, having assisted on each of the Blackhawks’ goals during their recent 3-2 loss to the Blues. In fact, Bedard was off to the best start of his career, recording 44 points in just 31 games, an impressive tally that ranks him third in the NHL behind only Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.
The Blackhawks now face a challenging situation as they will attempt to fill the gap left by their star player, with Frank Nazar stepping in as a potential first-line center. Following the home game against Detroit, the team is set to embark on a three-game Canadian road trip beginning Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bedard's absence extends beyond the Blackhawks, as he is also a hopeful for a spot on the Canadian roster for the upcoming 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong expressed high hopes for Bedard and another rising star, Macklin Celebrini, in light of their impressive performances this season. With the Olympic roster deadline set for December 31, both Team Canada and the Blackhawks will be watching Bedard's recovery closely, as it could have significant implications for both his team and the national squad.
