College Baseball Season Winds Down as MLB Draft Season Heats Up

As the college baseball season approaches its conclusion, the focus shifts toward the upcoming MLB draft season. Though the official talent selection will not occur until mid-July, the upcoming conference tournaments present a crucial opportunity for many top prospects to showcase their abilities. Strong performances during this period could lead to significant movements on draft boards as anticipation builds for the selections ahead.
In recent expert mock drafts, analysis reveals a predominantly prep-heavy slate at the top of the rankings. The latest top-150 prospect list, compiled by expert McDaniel, features a mini-mock draft projecting the first 14 picks. Leading the pack is Ethan Holliday, a third baseman from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma. Holliday, who is the son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday and the brother of Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday, represents one of the most coveted talents. However, McDaniel notes that the top positions remain fluid and subject to change.
Following Holliday, the mock continues with Florida State’s southpaw Jamie Arnold and California’s Corona High School right-hander Seth Hernandez. College left-handers Liam Doyle from Tennessee and Kade Anderson from LSU are next in line, followed by shortstop Billy Carlson from Hernandez’s school and Oklahoma’s Fort Cobb-Broxton High School shortstop Eli Willits. The draft board then includes collegiate players such as Oregon State’s shortstop Aiva Arquette and Texas A&M centerfielder Jace LaViolette, rounding out the selections with Oklahoma righty Kyson Witherspoon. The mini-mock concludes with yet another prep shortstop, JoJo Parker of Purvis High School in Mississippi.
