Chiefs' Chris Jones Deletes Social Media Amid Criticism Over Key Play

Chiefs' Defensive Star Faces Backlash
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones made headlines this week after choosing to delete his social media accounts. The decision follows criticism regarding his efforts during a crucial game-winning play by Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Monday night.
After the game, Jones expressed his frustration, stating, "I thought multiple times we had him. ... We've just got to finish. Multiple guys there that we've just got to finish that play. It was a fluke play for him to be able to break that many tackles. Yeah, I put it on us as a defense. We've got to finish." These remarks came as part of his explanation for the team's inability to prevent Lawrence from scoring.
Coaching Staff Expectations
However, head coach Andy Reid was not satisfied with Jones's assessment. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus during plays: "You can't think that the guy is down. You can't think that," Reid stated on Wednesday. "You have to play the play. He knows. He's been around this a long time. That's really what it came down to." Reid's comments highlight the high expectations placed on Jones, particularly after the Chiefs signed him to a lucrative five-year, $158.7 million contract in March 2024.
This season, the 31-year-old defensive lineman has accumulated seven tackles, including four for a loss, and one sack over five games, often finding himself facing double teams. Despite his overall contributions to the team, fans were left unimpressed by his passive approach during the decisive moment, marking a troubling trend for the team's highest-paid defender.
In light of the criticism, Jones opted to step away from social media, signaling his desire to avoid further backlash.
