Carmelo Anthony Reflects on Confrontation with Kevin Garnett
Carmelo Anthony, a former NBA star known for his scoring prowess, usually displayed a calm demeanor throughout his career. However, an infamous confrontation in 2013 with fellow NBA legend Kevin Garnett marked an exception. In a recent episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, hosted by Wave Sports + Entertainment, Anthony and former New York Knicks teammate Iman Shumpert engaged in an in-depth discussion regarding the events that escalated this notable feud.
During the conversation, Anthony recounted a particularly triggering moment when he stated, 'He [Kevin Garnett] told me some bugged-out s--t. He told me some wild s--t that we don't speak about. At that moment he really crossed the line.' His remarks, which surfaced around the 35:30 mark in the episode, hint at underlying tensions that were reportedly heightened by Garnett's comments about Anthony's then-wife, La La Anthony. Although Garnett has since refuted these claims, asserting that he never made disparaging remarks about Anthony's family, the aftermath of their exchange left a lasting impression.
Shumpert provided context to the situation by indicating that Anthony's urgency to confront Garnett stemmed from a desire to resolve their differences. He noted, 'He is always the last one out of the locker room. My man gets treatment, ice, he might lift; my boy got a lot of stuff for recovery he gotta do.' This delay only intensified Anthony's resolve to address the matter as he and Shumpert, along with Baron Davis, waited 20 to 25 minutes outside the locker room. When Garnett finally emerged, surrounded by security personnel, Anthony attempted to initiate a dialogue, prompting Garnett's bemused response of, 'Melo, over a basketball game?!' Despite the lack of an opportunity for a direct conversation during the All-Star Game, Anthony extended an invitation to Garnett to appear on his podcast, expressing a desire for reconciliation, stating, 'I'm a Peace God now, so Ticket, you want to come on the brown couch, you want to come holla at us, have some fun?'
