Browns Quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel Deny Rivalry Ahead of 2025 Season

Cleveland Browns Quarterbacks Clear the Air

In a recent press conference, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders addressed the perceived tension between him and fellow first-year quarterback Dillon Gabriel, following comments made during the preseason. Sanders assured reporters that he is "not tripping" over Gabriel's remarks regarding the distinction between "entertainers and competitors" during a sideline interview.

Gabriel's comments came after the Browns' preseason victory against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he stated, "You know, there's entertainers and there's competitors and I totally understand that. My job is to compete, and that's what I'm focused on doing." This statement raised eyebrows, with some believing it was aimed at Sanders. However, Gabriel later clarified that it was not intended as a jab, stating, "Entertainers are you all. Competitor, that's what I am, and all my teammates. And we both have jobs to do. So, that's it."

The Quarterback Competition Heats Up

The Browns selected Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, followed by Shedeur Sanders two rounds later. Both quarterbacks are part of an intense four-way competition for the starting position, alongside veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. As of this week, Flacco has been officially named the starter for the upcoming season.

Sanders showcased his potential in the preseason opener, throwing two touchdown passes before sidelining himself due to an oblique injury. Meanwhile, Gabriel, who missed the initial game due to a hamstring issue, struggled in his starting role against Philadelphia, turning the ball over twice. Despite these early challenges, expectations are high that the Browns will retain all four quarterbacks on their roster for the 2025 season, allowing Sanders and Gabriel ample time to build a stronger relationship moving forward.
