Brewers Secure Peralta's Future While Woodruff Hits Free Agency

Brewers Announce Pitching Decisions for the Future
Milwaukee Brewers fans received mixed news regarding their pitching lineup on Monday. The team confirmed they have exercised the $8 million contract option for ace Freddy Peralta, ensuring he will remain under contract through the 2026 season. Following that, he will enter free agency in 2027 unless a new contract is negotiated.
On the other hand, starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff has opted out of his $20 million mutual option, opting instead for a $10 million buyout. This decision makes the two-time All-Star a free agent following a standout season where he recorded a 7-2 record, a 3.20 ERA, and an impressive 0.91 WHIP over 12 starts.
Peralta's impressive season played a critical role in leading the Brewers to a franchise-best record of 97-65, securing their third consecutive NL Central title and advancing to the NLCS for the first time since 2018. Notably, Peralta achieved a remarkable seventh-best ERA in the league with 2.70, tallied the ninth-most strikeouts with 204, and ranked thirteenth in WHIP at 1.08, boasting a fourth-best pitcher record of 17-6.
However, Peralta's postseason performance was less dominant, recording a 1-2 record with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in three starts. While Milwaukee has secured Peralta for at least another season, speculation persists about his future in a Brewers uniform. According to The Athletic’s Andy McCullough, the team is likely to explore trade options for the ace due to his affordable contract. Regardless, the organization has the option to retain him as a valuable asset in their rotation.
