Bears' C.J. Gardner-Johnson Hints at Welcoming Trevon Diggs to Chicago

C.J. Gardner-Johnson Signals Support for Trevon Diggs Joining Bears
In a surprising turn of events, Chicago Bears safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has opened the door for a potential new teammate, cornerback Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys. Following Diggs' recent release from the Cowboys, Gardner-Johnson took to social media to post a bear emoji along with a pair of eyes, possibly indicating his interest in having Diggs join the Bears as they gear up for the playoffs.
With Diggs now available to sign with any team following his clearance from waivers, the two-time Pro Bowler expressed his desire to play for a contender heading into postseason action. The Bears, who have clinched a playoff spot after winning the NFC North with an impressive 11-5 record, are poised to further elevate their standings in the upcoming Week 18 matchup against the Detroit Lions. A victory in this game could secure the NFC’s No. 2 seed for Chicago.
Trevon Diggs has had a notable track record, earning a first-team All-Pro selection in 2021 after leading the league with 11 interceptions and subsequently making another Pro Bowl appearance. However, his performance has been hampered by injuries, limiting him to just 21 games since the start of the 2023 season. He struggled this year, appearing in only eight games due to a right knee issue and a concussion from an off-field incident, recording 25 tackles and one tackle for loss along the way.
Despite these challenges, a fresh start with the Bears could reignite Diggs' career. Chicago's defense has thrived this season, ranking first in the NFL with 22 interceptions. Moreover, Gardner-Johnson understands the challenges of navigating player changes, having recently joined Chicago himself after being released by the Houston Texans. Adding to the potential connection, the Bears' defensive backs coach Al Harris previously held the same role with the Cowboys during Diggs' tenure, possibly easing Diggs' transition should he choose to come aboard.
