Baltimore Orioles Sign Veteran Pitcher Charlie Morton

The Baltimore Orioles have taken a significant step to enhance their pitching depth by signing veteran right-handed starting pitcher Charlie Morton to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. The announcement was made via the team's official social media platform, X, welcoming Morton to Birdland.
According to reports from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the contract is valued at approximately $15 million. Morton, who is entering his 18th season in Major League Baseball, boasts an impressive resume that includes two All-Star selections, 383 career wins, and two World Series championships. In the 2024 season, the 41-year-old posted an 8-10 record with a 4.19 ERA across 165.1 innings while pitching for the Atlanta Braves, showcasing his reliability as a back-of-rotation starter.
The Orioles' pitching rotation will benefit from Morton's extensive playoff experience, particularly as the team aims to improve its postseason performance. Although the team lost ace Corbin Burnes to the free agent market, the Orioles maintain a solid rotation led by Zach Eflin, Grayson Rodriguez, and Dean Kremer. Additionally, the team has bolstered its roster further by signing Tomoyuki Sugano from the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) this offseason. After achieving back-to-back playoff appearances and finishing with a 91-71 record in 2024, the Orioles are looking to capitalize on Morton's achievements to advance past the postseason, a feat they have not accomplished since 2014.
