During a discussion on the Road Trippin' podcast on September 11, Cuban highlighted an aspect of Edwards’ game that caught the attention of many: his tendency to step over the free-throw line after shooting a foul shot. Cuban noted, "Every single time he steps over the line. If you remember back in the day, I used to send in tapes on Shaq... and they started calling it, and he had to fix his free throws." This prompted a wave of messages from fellow players who urged Edwards to make a change.
Edwards shared, "After he did what he did this summer, a bunch of dudes was texting me like, bro you gotta change this 'cause they gonna start doing it." He also revealed that his coach, Tom Crean, reached out with similar advice. Consequently, Edwards decided to adjust his routine to adhere to the referees’ guidelines. He stated, "So now, the refs be like you can't step over the line, so I had to change."
Despite the adjustments, Edwards has not seen a dip in his free-throw accuracy. Currently, he boasts an 81.4 percent success rate from the stripe this season, building on a career-high of 83.7 percent in the previous 2024-25 campaign. With an impressive scoring average of 28.0 points per game alongside 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists, Anthony Edwards continues to showcase his abilities as a three-level scorer for the Timberwolves in the early stages of the 2025-26 season.
