Former Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala recently expressed his surprise at being named the MVP of the 2015 NBA Finals instead of his teammate Stephen Curry. During an appearance on a stream hosted by Twitch star Kai Cenat, Iguodala stated, 'I don't know why they gave it to me; they were supposed to give it to Steph.'
The 2015 NBA Finals marked a significant achievement for the Warriors, as they captured their first championship with Curry, defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games. Throughout the series, Curry showcased his prowess, averaging 26.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, boasting impressive shooting splits of 44.3% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range, and 88.5% from the free-throw line.
Iguodala, who was pivotal in the Finals, contributed 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, shooting 52.1% from the field. The series began with the Cavaliers taking a 2-1 lead, prompting Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to adjust his starting lineup by inserting Iguodala in place of center Andrew Bogut for Game 4. Following this change, Golden State triumphed in each of the subsequent games to secure the championship. Although LeBron James maintained a high scoring average of 30.7 points per game after the lineup shift, he struggled with a shooting percentage of 39.3% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc. While Curry did not receive the Finals MVP honor in 2015, he ultimately earned it during the Warriors' championship victory against the Boston Celtics in 2022, a recognition Iguodala believes was long overdue.
