Allen Iverson Celebrates Six Months of Sobriety: A Journey of Reflection and Recovery

Allen Iverson Opens Up About Sobriety on CBS Mornings
Basketball Hall of Famer Allen Iverson has publicly shared a significant milestone in his life, revealing that he has been sober for six months. In an emotional appearance on CBS Mornings with Maurice DuBois, Iverson described his decision to stop drinking as "one of the best decisions I ever made in my life."
The former NBA superstar, who faced numerous personal struggles related to alcohol even before the end of his illustrious career, reflected on the challenges he encountered during that period. Reports dating back to 2010 indicated growing concerns among friends and colleagues regarding Iverson’s drinking habits and gambling tendencies.
During the interview, Iverson also mentioned his infamous rant about practice in 2002, stating it wasn’t funny to him at the time due to personal issues he was facing. This moment of vulnerability highlights how his challenges affected both his career and personal life.
Iverson's struggles came to the forefront during the 2009-10 NBA season, his last in the league. Following that season, he had a brief stint with Beşiktaş in Turkey before officially retiring from basketball in January 2013. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016 and had his No. 3 jersey retired by the Philadelphia 76ers in March 2014.
As he continues his journey towards recovery, Iverson's hope is to inspire others facing similar battles with addiction.
