Aaron Judge Aims for a Strong Comeback Despite Throwing Concerns

Confusion Surrounds Aaron Judge's Return to Full Health
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has cleared up some confusion regarding his throwing capabilities as he navigates his way back from injury. Manager Aaron Boone's recent comments on WFAN suggested that Judge's throwing might be compromised for the remainder of the 2025 season, leading to uncertainty among fans and analysts alike.
"We're trying to get through where he can let it go with ease and be able to protect himself," Boone explained, expressing caution over Judge's return to the outfield. He added, "I don't think we're going to see him back to throwing like he normally does at any point this year, but that's OK, too." However, Judge himself contradicted these remarks, stating, "I don't know why he said that. He hasn't seen me throw for the past two weeks, so I'm pretty confident I'll get back to [100 percent]." Boone later acknowledged that he may have overstated Judge's situation.
Judge's Performance Since Injury
Judge has been recovering from a right flexor strain that sidelined him from July 25 until August 5. Since his return, he has primarily been utilized as the designated hitter, with concerns over his ability to throw impacting lineup decisions, particularly affecting Giancarlo Stanton's position.
Despite the throwing concerns, Judge's batting statistics are still notable. He is slashing .229/.426/.429 with two home runs and six RBIs since returning, which diverges from his typical production. Nevertheless, Judge's earlier performance this season showcases his prowess, as he leads the league in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, walks, and runs scored, making a significant impact on the Yankees' playoff aspirations.
The Yankees recently completed a series sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals and are preparing for a crucial two-game set against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays. With only five games separating them from the Toronto Blue Jays in the race for the American League East title, and tied with the Red Sox and Mariners for the AL wild-card spots, the Yankees hope to maximize Judge's contributions as they approach the end of the season.
