American League (AL) and National League (NL) heavyweights, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, were recognized as the leading MVP favorites and highlighted among this year's Silver Slugger award winners. On Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced the recipients, honoring ten players in each league, comprising one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, one designated hitter, and one utility player. The Yankees and the Dodgers were the only teams to have multiple Silver Slugger winners in this year's selections.
The league's coaches and managers from all 30 teams participated in the selection process, which culminated in a list of finalists for every position. In the American League, the winners across the infield included Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (First Base), Jose Altuve (Second Base), José Ramírez (Third Base), and Bobby Witt Jr. (Shortstop). The outfield honors were shared between Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Anthony Santander, while Salvador Perez secured the award for Catcher. Brent Rooker was named the Designated Hitter, and Josh Smith rounded out the list as the Utility player.
In the National League, Bryce Harper was awarded the Silver Slugger for First Base, with Ketel Marte taking the Second Base honor, Manny Machado winning at Third Base, and Francisco Lindor being recognized as the Shortstop recipient. The Outfield winners consisted of Teoscar Hernández, Jackson Merrill, and Jurickson Profar. William Contreras won for Catcher, Shohei Ohtani was honored as the Designated Hitter, and Mookie Betts claimed the Utility award. Notably, Judge and Ohtani were expected to receive these honors, given their impressive showings during the season.
