Zion Williamsons Potential Return Sparks Anticipation for the Pelicans
New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson may have the opportunity to return to the court this week following a two-month recovery from a hamstring injury, as indicated by head coach Willie Green on Monday. Green noted that 'there's a chance' Williamson will be able to participate in games soon and highlighted that the player took part in a 5-on-5 practice session.
Although these developments are promising, attention will shift to how Williamson integrates with his teammates, especially Dejounte Murray, if he is able to play this week. Williamson has made a notable impact in his limited appearances this season, averaging 22.7 points with a shooting percentage of 45.2%, alongside 8.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists over an average of 31 minutes per game. He has only participated in six games this season, with his last appearance occurring on November 6, due to a left hamstring strain.
In a previous update on December 24, the Pelicans expressed optimism regarding Williamson's progress, stating that he has entered the return-to-play conditioning phase of his rehabilitation and is expected to return to full practice the following week. Although injuries have significantly hindered Williamson's performance since his 2019-20 rookie season, when he played only 24 games due to a torn meniscus, he has shown exceptional talent when healthy. His statistical averages in 190 games reflect this, with 24.6 points on 58.7% shooting, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. The Pelicans hope for a stable stretch of health not only for Williamson but also for other key players, including Brandon Ingram, who is currently sidelined with a left ankle sprain.
