Yankees vs. Giants Kick Off 2026 MLB Season in Historic Netflix Broadcast

Yankees and Giants to Open MLB Season on Netflix
The New York Yankees are set to face off against the San Francisco Giants in a highly anticipated matchup to kick off the 2026 MLB season. This game will mark a significant milestone as it will be the first exclusive Major League Baseball (MLB) broadcast on Netflix, according to a report from Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.
The Yankees-Giants game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as a standalone primetime event, leading into the regular season's official start the following day. This exciting broadcast will be part of a new three-year agreement between Netflix and MLB.
In addition to covering Opening Day, Netflix is expected to air other significant MLB events, including the Home Run Derby next season. Furthermore, the streaming service is anticipated to collaborate with NBC on several broadcasts, which may include the popular “Field of Dreams,” “MLB at Rickwood Field,” and the “MLB Speedway” games.
As ESPN has opted out of the final three years of its MLB deal, various aspects of the broadcast package previously held by ESPN, such as Sunday Night Baseball, the Home Run Derby, and playoff games, have been redistributed among Netflix and NBC/Peacock. Reports indicate that these deals could be valued between $225-250 million per season, highlighting the growing financial stakes in sports broadcasting.
Netflix continues to expand its presence in live sports, following successful broadcasts of high-profile boxing events and planning NFL games on Christmas for the upcoming seasons. With a deal also in place with WWE, it’s clear that Netflix is committed to becoming a major player in the live sports arena.
