World Series Ticket Prices Surge Amid Yankees-Dodgers Matchup

The upcoming World Series matchup between two of Major League Baseball's most popular franchises, the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, is driving unprecedented demand for tickets. According to online ticket seller TickPick, the average price for a ticket to this highly anticipated series has reached a record $1,703 on the secondary market, surpassing the previous record of $1,693 set in 2016 during the thrilling seven-game series that saw the Chicago Cubs end a 108-year championship drought against the Cleveland Indians.
StubHub has reported that the Yankees versus Dodgers matchup is already the best-selling World Series in the company's 24-year history. As of Wednesday afternoon, the lowest resale ticket price for Game 1, which is scheduled for this Friday, is more than double that of the cheapest ticket for the inaugural game of any of the last five World Series. For reference, the lowest ticket prices for the first game of the previous five World Series have been significantly lower: $305 for 2023 (Diamondbacks vs. Rangers), $445 for 2022 (Phillies vs. Astros), $169 for 2021 (Braves vs. Astros), $250 for 2020 (Rays vs. Dodgers), and $407 for 2019 (Nationals vs. Astros).
As detailed by Vivid Seats, the minimum price for any game in the 2023 World Series currently stands at $896 for Game 4 at Yankee Stadium. Tickets for all four games scheduled at Dodger Stadium are listed with a starting price exceeding $1,000 when fees are accounted for. Notably, the highest-priced ticket at this juncture is cataloged at $1,323 (including fees) for a possible Game 7. The reasons for the heightened excitement are numerous, not least of which is that this series marks the Yankees' first World Series appearance since 2009, tying for the longest interval between appearances in franchise history. Combining the enthusiasm from Yankees fans with the clash of presummptive MVP winners Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani adds to the ticket demand. The Dodgers' storied history and substantial fanbase further contribute to the notable interest surrounding this World Series. Game 1 between the Yankees and Dodgers is set to take place in Los Angeles on Friday at 8:08 p.m. ET.
