Waiver Wire Wonders: Top Fantasy Football Targets for Week 3

Injury Updates and Fantasy Impact
Week 2 of the NFL season has brought a mix of surprises to the fantasy landscape, alongside some disappointing injury news. Fantasy managers are scrambling to find reinforcements on the waiver wire, but there's a silver lining: several quality players are still available across most leagues.
Quarterback Options
With prominent quarterbacks like Justin Fields (concussion), Jayden Daniels (knee), J.J. McCarthy (ankle), and Joe Burrow (toe) out or severely injured, the waiver wire is buzzing with potential replacements. Burrow is expected to miss at least three months, effectively ending his fantasy season. One player gaining traction is Daniel Jones, who has shown promise with his breakout performances alongside the Indianapolis Colts. Another intriguing option is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Despite a quieter Week 2, which saw him focus more on the ground game against the Minnesota Vikings, Penix had a strong Week 1 with 298 passing yards and multiple touchdowns. He faces a favorable matchup against the struggling Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
Wide Receiver Standouts
The New York Giants' offense bounced back against the Dallas Cowboys, showcasing quarterback Russell Wilson, who threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. Malik Nabers was his go-to receiver, but Wan'Dale Robinson also made a significant impact by catching eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. While Robinson may not reach those heights against the Kansas City Chiefs, he still holds low-end flex value, especially with the Chiefs' defense allowing considerable yardage.
Emerging Tight Ends
New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson is another player to monitor. Despite having limited targets in Week 2, he's available in 56 percent of Yahoo leagues and 99 percent of ESPN leagues. Johnson's chemistry with quarterback Spencer Rattler could come into play even in a challenging matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, where the hostile environment may put his performance to the test.
Players to Drop
On the flip side, not all fantasy hopes will be realized. Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco, after a shaky performance, has shown his limitations behind a struggling offensive line. Additionally, rookie running back Kaleb Johnson and rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant of the Pittsburgh Steelers have failed to make an impact, making them candidates for the drop list. Both have logged minimal touches and playtime, which puts their future viability in jeopardy as the season progresses.
As managers prepare for Week 3, keeping an eye on the waiver wire for these emerging talents could enhance roster depth and bolster fantasy prospects.
