Tyreek Hill Hints at Possible Departure from Dolphins After Season End
After concluding the 2024 season with a 32-20 defeat to the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill suggested that his tenure with the team may be nearing its end. In a post-game interview, Hill expressed, "It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what's best for my career, because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there." This statement raised speculation about his future within the organization as the Dolphins failed to reach the playoffs.
Hill's frustration was evident as he reflected on the team's inability to qualify for postseason play, especially considering that he had participated in the playoffs every season since being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. He notably mentioned the challenges faced without franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who managed to appear in only 11 games this year due to a concussion and a hip injury. Hill described the situation as unfortunate, acknowledging the significant impact of Tagovailoa's absence on the team's performance.
In addition to his candid remarks to the media, Hill took to social media to convey a message to Dolphins fans, stating, "Love fin nation, blessing y'all opened doors for the Hill family forever, nothing but respect and love." Despite his contributions, which included two receptions for 20 yards in the season finale, Hill finished the year with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns. This marked the first time since 2019 that he fell short of the 1,000-yard milestone, a season in which he was limited to 12 games due to a shoulder injury. Furthermore, Hill indicated that he had been dealing with a wrist injury throughout the season and was pulled from the game once it became clear that Miami would not make the playoffs following the Denver Broncos' victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, which secured the final playoff spot. With a looming cap hit of $28.7 million in 2025, the Dolphins may consider trading Hill to acquire future assets, as he remains an impactful player when in good health, potentially attracting significant interest in the trade market.
