Toronto Raptors Appoint Bobby Webster as Head of Basketball Operations

Raptors Name Bobby Webster as Head of Basketball Operations
In a significant move for the franchise, the Toronto Raptors have appointed Bobby Webster as their head of basketball operations and have agreed to a new contract with him, as reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
This decision comes after the Raptors mutually parted ways with former president Masai Ujiri in June. Ujiri, who initially hired Webster in 2013, saw Webster develop into a crucial figure within the organization. Having served as vice president of strategy and assistant general manager, Webster was promoted to general manager in 2017.
Throughout the hiring process, the Raptors considered several candidates for the lead executive role, including Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan, Pacers president Kevin Pritchard, Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley, Detroit Pistons executive Dwane Casey, and former Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair. However, it was Webster's familiarity and proven track record that ultimately secured him the position.
Webster has played an integral role during one of the most successful periods in Raptors history, where the team enjoyed five consecutive seasons of at least 51 wins from 2015 to 2020, culminating in a championship victory in 2019.
Looking ahead, the Raptors aim to improve from last season’s disappointing 30-52 record. With a core that includes Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, and Jakob Poeltl—all under contract for at least two more years—Webster will step in as the leading decision-maker as the team works to break a three-year playoff drought in the upcoming season.
