Thunder Stumble Again: Spurs Hand OKC Third Straight Loss

Thunder Struggle Against Spurs on Christmas Day
The Oklahoma City Thunder faced a disappointing Christmas Day, falling 117-102 at home against the San Antonio Spurs. This loss marked the Thunder's third consecutive defeat to the Spurs and highlighted their struggles against the Texas team, which has now claimed four of the last six games against OKC. This decline comes after a stellar 24-1 start for the defending champions.
Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did not shy away from addressing the team’s issues, stating they need to collectively "look in the mirror" following the defeat. Gilgeous-Alexander also took a moment to commend the Spurs, who sit comfortably at 23-8, riding high on an eight-game win streak that places them second in the Western Conference, just two-and-a-half games behind the Thunder.
Spurs excel with High-Scoring Performance
The Spurs flew out of the gates, scoring an impressive 69 points in the first half. De'Aaron Fox led the team with 29 points, while Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama contributed 19 points each, the latter stepping up off the bench after overcoming a calf strain. The Spurs demonstrated impressive efficiency, shooting 54 percent from the field, in stark contrast to the Thunder's subpar 39 percent shooting and a mere 25 percent from three-point range.
Defensively, the Thunder, who once held the top spot in defensive rating, failed to contain the Spurs' offense, which executed flawlessly with 34 assists against just nine turnovers. The Spurs' dominance was further evident in their previous matchup earlier this month, where they also emerged victorious with a score of 130-110 in San Antonio.
This rivalry is heating up, and with another face-off scheduled for January 13, and another on February 4, the Thunder must find a way to break their losing streak against the Spurs if they hope to maintain their position in the playoff race.
