Team USA Unveils Olympic Hockey Roster for 2026: Key Snubs Include Stars Like Kreider and Robertson

Team USA Hockey Roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics Announced
The United States has officially unveiled its hockey roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. For the first time in 12 years, NHL players will make their return to Olympic competition. The roster, revealed on Friday, is brimming with talent, yet also raises eyebrows with several notable omissions.
Surprising Absences
Among the most surprising exclusions is Anaheim Ducks winger Chris Kreider, who was previously featured on the United States' 4 Nations roster but did not make the Olympic cut. The absence of Montreal Canadiens right wing Cole Caufield also caught many off guard. Perhaps the biggest shock, however, is Jason Robertson's omission, as he has established himself as one of the top goal-scorers in the NHL this season, particularly among American-born players.
Defensively, Adam Fox, a member of the 4 Nations roster, was also left off the Olympic team. While Fox has demonstrated significant skill on the ice, limited roster spots made it challenging for the U.S. coaching staff to incorporate all deserving players into the final lineup.
General Manager's Confidence
Bill Guerin, the general manager of U.S. hockey and also affiliated with the Minnesota Wild, acknowledges that there will inevitably be pushback over his selections, particularly on social media. However, he remains steadfast in his belief in the roster he has assembled. “Listen, I make my decisions and I move ahead,” Guerin stated in an interview with The Athletic's Michael Russo. “I don't care what people say on social media. I don't care what the experts say. All I care about is the team. I have a job to do, I'm doing it to the best of my ability. If I'm right, I'm right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and we think we have put together the best team we can to help bring us a gold medal.”
Looking Ahead to the Competition
The Winter Olympics are set to kick off on February 6, with the men's ice hockey tournament commencing on February 11. Team USA has not medaled in Olympic ice hockey since claiming the silver medal in 2010, and their last gold medal came from the iconic “Miracle on Ice” team in 1980. With high hopes, the team will aim to bring home the gold this time around.
