Team USA Reveals Hockey Roster for 2026 Winter Olympics: Surprising Snubs Include NHL Stars

Team USA Unveils Roster for 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics
The excitement is building as the United States officially announced its hockey roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. This much-anticipated lineup features NHL players in the Olympics for the first time in 12 years, showcasing a blend of established stars and emerging talent.
Notable Snubs Make Headlines
While the roster is abundant with skill, a few notable omissions have stirred conversations among fans and analysts alike. One name drawing attention is Anaheim Ducks winger Chris Kreider, who was included in the United States' 4 Nations roster but ultimately did not make the final Olympic team. Similarly, Montreal Canadiens right wing Cole Caufield's absence has raised eyebrows, as he was expected to contribute significantly.
Arguably the most surprising exclusion is Jason Robertson, who has been one of the top goal-scorers in the NHL this season, particularly among American-born players. His remarkable performance left many fans wondering what the selection committee's criteria truly were.
On the defensive front, Adam Fox, known for his impressive skills, was also included in the 4 Nations roster but found himself on the outside looking in for the Olympic event. With only a limited number of spots available in such a stacked position group, the decisions were particularly challenging.
Confidence from General Manager Bill Guerin
U.S. hockey general manager Bill Guerin, who also serves as the GM of the Minnesota Wild, expressed confidence in the roster he has assembled. In a statement to The Athletic's Michael Russo, Guerin acknowledged that he expects some backlash on social media regarding his decisions. However, he emphasized his commitment to the team and the gold medal objective.
"Listen, I make my decisions and I move ahead," Guerin stated. "I don't care what people say on social media. I don't care what the experts say. All I care about is the team. I have a job to do, I'm doing it to the best of my ability. If I'm right, I'm right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and we think we have put together the best team we can to help bring us a gold medal."
Looking Ahead to the Games
The Winter Olympics are set to begin on February 6, 2026, with the men’s ice hockey tournament kicking off on February 11. Team USA's quest for Olympic glory continues as they aim to break their medaling drought since the silver medal win in 2010 and reclaim the gold that last came during the iconic "Miracle on Ice" in 1980.
