Türkiye Advances to EuroBasket 2025 Championship
In a thrilling semifinal matchup at EuroBasket 2025, Alperen Şengün and Türkiye secured their place in the championship game by defeating Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece with a commanding score of 94-68. The win sets Türkiye up for a title clash against Germany, a team featuring notable NBA players like Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder.
Game Highlights
Friday's semifinal featured a showdown between two of the tournament's biggest stars, with Şengün and Antetokounmpo both aiming to lead their teams to victory. While neither player dominated the game, both recorded double-doubles, showcasing their all-around skills. Şengün contributed significantly with 15 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block, while Antetokounmpo finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.
Despite Antetokounmpo’s usual potency, he struggled to make an impact, scoring only four points in the first half. This opened the door for Türkiye to take control early in the game. Ercan Osmani was the standout player for Türkiye, leading the scoring with 28 points, thanks to an impressive shooting performance—11 of 15 from the field and 6 of 8 from three-point range.
Team Effort Propels Türkiye
Türkiye started strong, establishing a double-digit lead in the first quarter, which they extended to more than 20 by the second quarter. They went into halftime with an 18-point lead, demonstrating a balanced offensive attack complemented by a strong defensive effort that kept Greece at bay.
While Şengün faced difficulties with his shooting (2 of 11 from the field), he played a crucial role in rebounding and facilitating plays when Greece focused its defense on him. Türkiye's overall team performance, with Cedi Osman adding 17 points and Shane Larkin contributing 14 points along with five assists, solidified their dominance over Greece, who now faces Lauri Markkanen and Finland in the third-place game.
With their sights set on the championship, Türkiye goes into the final against Germany full of momentum and confidence, ready to showcase their talent on this grand stage.
