Steve Kerr Emphasizes Draymond Green's Importance Despite Bench Talk

Warriors Coach Backs Draymond Green as Key Starter
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently addressed the speculation surrounding forward Draymond Green's potential move to the bench. Despite Green expressing his willingness to take on a bench role if needed, Kerr affirmed that he doesn't plan to make that transition at this time.
“He's told me, this year, 'I'll go to the bench if you need me to,'” Kerr informed reporters following practice. “I know what Draymond is about. He's about winning.” As the Warriors navigate their challenging 15-15 season, Kerr emphasizes the strength of their current starting lineup, which features stars like Stephen Curry, Moses Moody, and Quinten Post alongside Green.
Kerr elaborated on his decision, stating, “That’s not even a consideration for me right now... I think it’s a great starting lineup for us because we get the size and shooting of Quinten next to Dray, which takes pressure off of him. And Dre is at his best next to Steph.” The chemistry between Green and Curry has been vital to the team's success, with Kerr noting that these two players are “incredible together.”
The 35-year-old Green highlights his impressive career as a four-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion. Currently, he is averaging 8.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Last season, the Warriors demonstrated their potential after acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. However, the team faced setbacks in the playoffs after Curry's injury.
Despite the Warriors' offensive struggles this season—ranking 20th in offensive rating while boasting the 3rd best defense—Kerr isn't concerned. With the team sitting eighth in the Western Conference and optimism ahead, the Warriors aim to improve their record when they face the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day. Kerr remains committed to refining their strategy to get the most out of his team as they push for a stronger performance this season.
