Stephen Curry Honors Kobe Bryant in Style During First Game as Sneaker Free Agent

Stephen Curry's Tribute to Kobe Bryant
In a heartfelt tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry took to the court wearing the iconic Kobe 6 Mambacita shoes during his first game after parting ways with Under Armour. The matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night marked a significant moment for Curry, who expressed his desire to honor Bryant's legacy before the game.
A New Chapter Begins
Following the Warriors' narrow 109-108 victory, Curry reflected on his decision to sport the Nike shoes. "I wanted to take advantage in that moment" he said, underlining the importance of honoring the NBA legend. Although Curry donned the Nikes during his warmups, he clarified that he is currently a "free agent" in the sneaker world, eagerly anticipating new opportunities ahead.
Farewell to Under Armour
This game also came on the heels of an announcement that Curry and Under Armour were officially parting ways after a successful partnership that began in 2013. The separation comes two years following a marketing deal that was expected to last well beyond his playing career. The final release from the Curry Brand x Under Armour collaboration will be the Curry 13, set to debut in February.
A Legendary Performance
Curry's tribute was complemented by an outstanding performance on the court, where he scored 49 points on 16-of-26 shooting in just 36 minutes of play. This marked his best game of the season and propelled the Warriors to their second consecutive victory over the Spurs.
The Mambacita Legacy
The Kobe 6 Mambacita shoes, which originally debuted in 2022, were designed as a homage to both Kobe and his daughter Gianna. Notably, the shoes feature a No. 2, a nod to Gianna's soccer jersey number, capturing the essence of their legacy.
