Stephen Curry Embraces Sneaker Freedom While Honoring NBA Legends

Stephen Curry's Newfound Sneaker Freedom
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is currently a shoe free agent, and he appears to be relishing the opportunity to don any footwear he chooses. This week, Curry paid tribute to NBA icon Michael Jordan by sporting the legendary "Flu Game" Air Jordan 12 in the tunnel before warming up in the "Last Shot" Air Jordan 14. These iconic shoes were worn by Jordan during his memorable games against the Utah Jazz, who the Warriors faced on Monday.
Transition from Under Armour
Curry, who signed with Under Armour in 2013, announced earlier this month that he and the brand would be parting ways. As part of this split, Curry will retain full ownership of his signature "Splash" logo. His final sneaker with Under Armour, the Curry 13, is set to debut in February, with additional colorways available until October 2026. After over a decade of being the face of Under Armour basketball, Curry is on the brink of aligning with another sneaker brand as his career progresses.
Paying Homage to Basketball Legends
Beyond honoring Jordan, Curry has recently expressed his admiration for other basketball legends through his footwear choices. Last week, as the Warriors faced the Orlando Magic, he donned shoes worn by Magic greats, including Shaquille O'Neal's signature Reebok shoes and Penny Hardaway's Air Penny 2. Likewise, before playing against the Miami Heat, he sported Dwyane Wade's Way of Wade 1. This trend of showcasing historical sneakers adds an exciting layer to Curry's shoe journey.
What Lies Ahead
Following their clash with the Jazz, the Warriors are set to face the Houston Rockets. As the season unfolds, fans are left wondering if Curry might sport Kevin Durant’s shoes next. While his shoe selection remains a compelling narrative, the 37-year-old's primary focus is competing for another title. Despite the Warriors' inconsistent start, sitting at 9-9, Curry has maintained an impressive performance, averaging 28.6 points per game this season.
