Seattle Mariners Launch Special Jersey Patch to Honor 50th Season

Celebrating 50 Years of Mariners Baseball
The Seattle Mariners are gearing up for their 50th season in Major League Baseball with an exciting announcement—a special jersey patch that will be worn throughout the 2026 season. This commemorative patch is not just a design; it's a tribute to the rich history and evolution of the franchise since its inception.
Patch Details and Historical Significance
Unveiled on Wednesday, the patch features the traditional compass rose, which has been a part of Seattle's primary logo since 1993. Elements from the team's past are also incorporated, including the classic lettering from their 1977 uniforms, connecting the present to the franchise's original look. Additionally, the patch showcases a silhouette of Mt. Rainier, an iconic landmark just outside of Seattle.
Further celebrating the Mariners' legacy, the design includes 116 orienting lines around the inside edge of the patch. This number pays homage to the remarkable achievement of the 2001 Mariners team, which tied the MLB record for most wins in a single season.
A Look Back and Forward
The Mariners franchise was founded in February 1976 as an expansion team in the American League, with the nickname selected from an incredible pool of 15,000 entries six months later. They played their inaugural season in 1977 and are now the second-oldest active sports franchise in Seattle, following the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.
Over the years, the Mariners have made the playoffs six times, reaching the American League Championship Series (ALCS) on four occasions but have yet to appear in a World Series. The atmosphere surrounding the team is currently optimistic, especially after winning the AL West for the first time in 24 years and making a strong run in the 2025 playoffs, where they faced the Toronto Blue Jays in a thrilling seven-game ALCS.
Adding to the excitement, standout player Josh Naylor recently committed to the Mariners by signing a five-year contract worth $92.5 million, reinforcing the team's dedication to building a competitive roster.
As the Mariners prepare to kick off their 2026 season, they will mark the occasion with a home game against the Cleveland Guardians on March 26.
