Schedule Changes Impact Tampa Bay Rays 2025 Season Start
Major League Baseball has announced two significant schedule changes that will affect the Tampa Bay Rays as they prepare for the 2025 season. According to updates from Moneyline, these alterations were made to minimize disruptions from summer weather at their temporary home, Steinbrenner Field. As a result of these changes, 47 of the team's first 59 games will take place at home.
The Rays' series against the Los Angeles Angels, initially set to be played in Anaheim from April 7-9, has been rescheduled for April 8-10 in Tampa. Additionally, a series against the Minnesota Twins, which was supposed to occur at Target Field from May 26-28, has also been moved to Tampa on the same dates. These adjustments reflect a proactive approach by MLB to address potential rain-related issues given that the Rays will now play outdoors.
Following a predominantly home schedule to start the season, the Rays will later face a challenging road stretch, playing 69 of their final 103 games away. This includes only eight home games during both July and August. The need to relocate to Steinbrenner Field arose due to significant damage to Tropicana Field from Hurricane Milton, which resulted in the destruction of the stadium's roof. Reports indicate that the Rays may not return to their original venue until at least 2026, if at all. After finishing the 2024 season with an 80-82 record, marking the end of five consecutive playoff appearances, the franchise is also facing delays in their plans to build a new stadium adjacent to Tropicana Field, attributed to hurricane recovery challenges and ongoing financial discussions.
