Raiders Offensive Coordinator Discusses Rookie Running Backs Stance Change

Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly recently addressed inquiries regarding rookie running back Ashton Jeanty's adjustment to his backfield stance. Kelly clarified that he did not instruct any players on specific stances, emphasizing, 'I don't coach positions.'
During a May 19th appearance on the show Up & Adams, Jeanty recalled an interaction with Kelly from rookie minicamp. He stated, 'What's crazy is, Chip Kelly comes to me the first day of rookie minicamp and he's like, 'You ever play basketball?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, I play basketball, you know I can dunk and all that.' He's like, 'OK, show me how you would guard me,' and he's acting like he's holding the ball,' Jeanty shared.
The 21-year-old running back, who was selected by the Raiders as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft after an impressive college career at Boise State, confirmed his willingness to adapt his stance. He expressed confidence in his ability to earn his place in the team, stating, 'I have to earn my stripes and make some plays first, but I don't think it's going to be the end [of the stance].' Kelly expressed admiration for Jeanty’s coachability and potential versatility, which could significantly contribute to the Raiders’ offense in the upcoming season, especially after finishing with the lowest rushing attack in the league last year.
