Patrick Mahomes Tears ACL, Chiefs Look to Backup Gardner Minshew as Season Winds Down

Kansas City Chiefs' Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Faces ACL Injury
The Kansas City Chiefs recently announced that quarterback Patrick Mahomes has torn the ACL in his left knee during their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. This injury has placed Mahomes on the sidelines as the team explores potential surgical options for recovery.
Mahomes exited the game after sustaining the knee injury, with backup Gardner Minshew stepping in to lead the team. Minshew was able to drive the Chiefs into field goal range, but unfortunately ended the game with an interception.
Despite this setback, the 30-year-old Mahomes remained optimistic, sending a message to fans that he would return “stronger than ever.” Throughout his NFL career, Mahomes has generally managed to avoid severe injuries, although he faced a previous scare last season with a high ankle injury, which nearly sidelined him for a pivotal Week 16 matchup.
In the current season, Mahomes has been performing at a high level, having thrown for 3,398 yards and 22 touchdowns, but the team's performance has suffered, resulting in a disappointing 6-8 record. Following the Chiefs' elimination from playoff contention and Mahomes' injury, Gardner Minshew will step in as the starting quarterback as they aim to finish the season on a strong note.
