NHL Teams Top Players Since 2000: A Focus on Excellence

In the National Hockey League (NHL), each team has its own set of players whose contributions have made significant impacts on their franchises. These players may be high-scoring forwards, skilled defensemen, or exceptional goaltenders. From this distinguished group emerges a select few who are regarded as the very best, warranting their inclusion on a team’s 'Mount Rushmore' of all-time greats. For teams with extensive histories, determining just four standout players can be challenging, while for less established teams, the task may be relatively straightforward. This analysis will focus on standout players from the NHL's recent history, specifically from the 2000-01 season onward, as these athletes resonate more closely with today's fans based on their overall performance and impact during this period. Notably, some players appear on multiple teams' lists due to their careers spanning various clubs, including those associated with relocated franchises such as the Atlanta Thrashers, now the Winnipeg Jets, and the Arizona Coyotes, now the Utah Mammoth.
Among the Anaheim Ducks, notable figures include Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Teemu Selänne, and Jean-Sébastien Giguère. Getzlaf, the longest-serving captain in Ducks history, played 1,157 games, contributing 737 assists and totaling 1,019 points. Perry’s illustrious career features a Hart Memorial Trophy and a Maurice Richard Trophy during the 2010-11 season, placing him second in the franchise with 372 goals. Selänne, a Hall of Famer, holds the Ducks' record with 457 goals scored during his 15 seasons with the team. Giguère is revered for his goaltending prowess, leading the franchise with 206 wins and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2023 for his playoff performance. Each was instrumental in the Ducks’ 2007 Stanley Cup victory.
For the Boston Bruins, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chára, David Pastrňák, and Brad Marchand have made significant contributions. Bergeron, a six-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner, ranks third in Bruins history for games played (1,294) and points (1,040). Fellow Hall of Famer Chára captained the Bruins for 14 seasons and received the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 2008-09, aiding the team during their 2011 Stanley Cup win. Pastrňák recently became one of only two Bruins to score at least 60 goals in a season, achieving the Maurice Richard Trophy in 2019-20, while Marchand, also a Stanley Cup champion, ranks fourth in all-time Bruins goals with 422.
