NHL Teams Mountain Rushmores of the Last 25 Years

In the National Hockey League (NHL), each team boasts its share of players whose contributions have significantly shaped the franchise's history. These athletes may include scoring forwards, talented defensemen, or exceptional goaltenders, but a select few consistently stand out as the best in their respective franchises. These players are often regarded as being part of their team's revered 'Mount Rushmore,' representing the top four players of all time. The task of selecting just four players is particularly complex for teams with extensive histories, whereas teams with shorter histories might find it easier to put together a concise list. This analysis focuses on players from the past 25 NHL seasons, beginning with the 2000-01 season, as these athletes are more recognizable to today's fans due to their overall performance, postseason achievements, and integral roles within their clubs. It is important to note that some of these players may feature on multiple teams' Mount Rushmores, reflecting careers that spanned various franchises. Additionally, the list includes players who played for teams that have since relocated, like the Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets) and the Arizona Coyotes (now the Utah Mammoth).
Among the players selected for this analysis are Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Teemu Selänne, and Jean-Sébastien Giguère from the Anaheim Ducks. Getzlaf holds the franchise record for games played (1,157) and assists (737), as well as being the first captain in Ducks' history, leading the team for 12 seasons. Perry, notable for winning both the Hart Memorial Trophy and Maurice Richard Trophy during the 2010-11 season, ranks second in franchise history with 372 goals. Meanwhile, Selänne, a Hall of Famer and the franchise's all-time goal leader with 457 goals, played 15 of his 21 NHL seasons with the Ducks. Giguère, who received the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP in 2023, holds franchise records for wins (206) and shutouts (32). Together, these players played crucial roles in securing the Ducks' Stanley Cup victory in 2007.
Similarly, the Boston Bruins' Mount Rushmore features Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chára, David Pastrňák, and Brad Marchand. Bergeron, a six-time winner of the Frank J. Selke Trophy, ranks third in Bruins' history with 1,294 games played and 1,040 points. Chára, a Hall of Famer and the 2008-09 James Norris Memorial Trophy recipient, captained the Bruins for 14 seasons, contributing significantly to Boston's 2011 Stanley Cup triumph. Additionally, Pastrňák, who was only the second Bruin to score at least 60 goals in a season, is a Maurice Richard Trophy winner from the 2019-20 season. Marchand, who also won the Stanley Cup in 2011, sits fourth in Bruins' history with 1,090 games played and 422 goals.
