NFL Invests $32 Million in New Professional Flag Football League Ahead of Olympic Debut

NFL's Bold Move into Flag Football
The NFL has announced a significant investment of up to $32 million aimed at launching a new professional flag football league. This initiative comes at a time when organized flag football is rapidly gaining popularity and is set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Partnerships in Progress
While the NFL has yet to disclose its partner for this venture, Bloomberg reported in October that two frontrunners are in discussions. The first potential partner is TMRW Sports, co-led by golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and the second is a consortium led by former NFL running back Curtis Martin, which includes sports investor Marc Lasry. The NFL has acknowledged tremendous interest from various companies and is working diligently to secure operational leads that will promote long-term success.
Commitment to Gender Inclusivity
In a statement made in October, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed the league's commitment to establishing both a women's and a men's professional flag football league. He highlighted the high level of interest in this initiative, aiming to launch these leagues within the next couple of years.
Looking Ahead to the Olympics
The flag football venture may debut before the 2028 Olympics, aligning with global excitement around the sport. While NFL athletes will be eligible to participate in the Olympic tournament, regulations allow for only one player from each NFL team to represent their country.
This strategic move demonstrates the NFL's dedication to expanding football's reach and engaging both men and women in the sport. Goodell emphasized the importance of partnering with creative and strategic allies that can bring added value to the league.
