NFL Considers Future of 18-Game Regular Season

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated during a recent press conference that the league and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have not yet engaged in formal discussions regarding an extension of the regular season to 18 games. However, Goodell acknowledged that preliminary conversations on the subject have taken place, indicating a willingness to explore this option further in the future.
Goodell mentioned that an alternative scheduling model of an 18-game regular season accompanied by a two-game preseason might be on the table. He emphasized the importance of considering player input in the decision-making process for any potential changes to the season format, noting that advancements in player safety have played a crucial role in evaluating this possibility. 'Eighteen and two may be a possibility,' Goodell remarked, reflecting the league's understanding of fan enthusiasm for more football action.
In his remarks, Goodell highlighted the need for the NFL to approach this potential expansion thoughtfully, acknowledging fans’ desires while also ensuring player welfare. 'We know that fans love football and want more football, but we have to be incredibly sensitive and smart about it,' he said. This topic will continue to evolve, and updates will be provided as new information and analyses emerge.
