New York Yankees Eye Big Moves to Revamp Roster Ahead of 2026 Season

A Stagnant Offseason for the Yankees
With the winter meetings wrapped up and the free-agent pool shrinking, the New York Yankees have yet to make any significant strides this offseason. Center fielder Trent Grisham accepted his qualifying offer, while role players Ryan Yarbrough and Amed Rosario were brought back on one-year contracts. The only new addition to the 40-man roster is Rule 5 selection Cade Winquest, who will look to secure a bullpen spot this spring.
Proposed Moves to Strengthen the Roster
Despite the slow start, there's still time for the Yankees to improve their roster for the 2026 season. Here are five proposed strategies that could elevate them back to top-tier contender status:
1. Sign Kyle Tucker
The Yankees should focus on signing Kyle Tucker to a lucrative 10-year, $360 million deal in free agency. Tucker, a left-handed hitter known for his power and defensive prowess, would be an ideal fit for Yankee Stadium. Acquiring him would put an end to the ongoing discussion about a quiet offseason.
2. Re-sign Cody Bellinger
If Tucker stays with the Yankees, the outfield lineup would be solid with the addition of both him and Bellinger, alongside Grisham and Aaron Judge. However, should they move Jasson Domínguez, a promising young player, he could be used as trade bait to acquire a starting pitcher.
3. Acquire Edward Cabrera
The Yankees could look to trade Domínguez to the Miami Marlins for pitcher Edward Cabrera. At 27, Cabrera had a stellar 2025 season with a 3.53 ERA and would provide valuable depth in the rotation as they await the return of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón.
4. Sign Rhys Hoskins
On the first base front, the Yankees can target Rhys Hoskins with a one-year, $7.5 million deal. His left-handed swing makes him an excellent complement to the Yankees’ current lineup, particularly against left-handed pitchers.
5. Add Depth to the Bullpen
Finally, the Yankees should consider signing pitchers Tyler Kinley and Danny Coulombe to round out their bullpen. Both players showed promise last season and would add much-needed depth to the Yankees' pitching staff.
Projected Lineup for 2026
If these strategies are implemented, the Yankees' projected lineup could look like this:
- CF Trent Grisham
- LF Kyle Tucker
- RF Aaron Judge
- 2B Jazz Chisholm
- DH Giancarlo Stanton
- 1B Ben Rice
- 3B Ryan McMahon
- SS José Caballero
- C Austin Wells
With these moves, the Yankees have the potential to transform their roster and emerge as a competitive force in the upcoming season.
