New York Rangers Goaltender Igor Shesterkin Placed on Injured Reserve
The New York Rangers have announced the placement of goaltender Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. This information was first reported by Arthur Staple of Moneyline. In response to Shesterkin’s absence, the team has called up goaltender Louis Domingue from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Igor Shesterkin, 29, recently completed a season that showcased his impressive skills, finishing with a record of 36 wins and 17 losses, along with 1,467 saves and a save percentage of .913. His performance was pivotal in leading the Rangers to the conference finals, where they faced off against the Florida Panthers, the eventual champions. Earlier this month, after extensive negotiations, the Rangers made Shesterkin the highest-paid goaltender in NHL history, awarding him an eight-year contract valued at $92 million, which surpassed the previous record set by Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.
As Shesterkin enters this week on injured reserve, the Rangers will look to veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick to fill the gap. Quick has made 12 appearances and nine starts this season, achieving a record of 5-4 and a save percentage of .907. The Rangers currently find themselves struggling, ranking last in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 16 wins, 19 losses, and 1 overtime loss through 36 games.
