New York Jets Conduct Early Head-Coaching Interviews with Mike Vrabel and Ron Rivera
The New York Jets are actively progressing through their initial phase of head-coaching interviews, with Mike Vrabel scheduled as the second candidate to meet with team officials. According to reports from Moneyline's Zack Rosenblatt, Vrabel's interview is set to take place at the Jets' facility on Friday.
The Jets previously announced that Ron Rivera has already completed his interview, marking him as the first known candidate to engage in discussions for the head coaching position. This comes after Vrabel's recent tenure with the Cleveland Browns as a personnel consultant, a role that concluded when his contract expired earlier this week, as noted by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Vrabel, who is widely regarded as a prominent coaching figure, is anticipated to attract interest from multiple teams during the offseason.
As reported by Albert Breer of Moneyline, Vrabel is viewed as a potential frontrunner for the Las Vegas Raiders should they decide to make a change in leadership. This speculation is bolstered by Raiders controlling owner Mark Davis' statement regarding Tom Brady's influence on the organization, who owns a small stake in the franchise and has a long-standing relationship with Vrabel, stemming from their time as teammates with the New England Patriots from 2001 to 2008. Additionally, Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda highlighted that while Vrabel may harbor aspirations for the Patriots' job, current indications suggest that Jerod Mayo is expected to return for a second season in 2025. The Jets are in search of a new head coach and general manager after the mid-season dismissal of Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas. With a 4-12 record entering their final game of the 2024 season, the Jets are set to miss the playoffs for the 14th consecutive year. In contrast, Vrabel recorded a 54-45 record during his six seasons with the Titans from 2018 to '23, achieving three playoff appearances, two division titles, and a notable run to the AFC Championship Game in the 2019 season.
