NBA Trade Deadline Approaches with Significant Moves
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, general managers face a critical deadline set for 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. Fans eagerly await potential blockbuster trades that could significantly impact the championship race as the regular season progresses. While major deals are anticipated, several trades have already occurred, with palpable playoff implications for the involved teams.
In a notable transaction, the Washington Wizards have finalized a trade sending Kyle Kuzma, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and a second-round draft pick to the Milwaukee Bucks. In return, the Wizards receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, and a pick swap, according to reporting by ESPN's Shams Charania. Additionally, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to send forward KJ Martin to the Detroit Pistons, as per Keith Pompey's report from the Philadelphia Inquirer. This deal reportedly includes two second-round picks, one from Milwaukee in 2027 and the other from Dallas in 2031.
Caleb Martin is also on the move; the Philadelphia 76ers have traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick, as highlighted by Charania. Another significant deal involves the San Antonio Spurs acquiring De'Aaron Fox in a three-team trade that sends Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings. This trade is reported to include an exchange of three first-round and three second-round picks, while the Spurs also gain Jordan McLaughlin. The Chicago Bulls, meanwhile, will receive Tre Jones, Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, and their own 2025 pick from the Spurs.
In one of the most remarkable midseason trades, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly sending forward Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for star guard Luka Dončić. The Lakers will also receive big man Maxi Kleber and forward Markieff Morris, while Dallas obtains guard Max Christie and a first-round pick from Los Angeles in 2029. The Utah Jazz play a supporting role in this deal, acquiring guard Jalen Hood-Schifino from the Lakers and receiving a 2025 second-round pick from Dallas and another second-rounder from the Los Angeles Clippers in return.
Veteran forward P.J. Tucker has realized his wish, with reports indicating that the Los Angeles Clippers are trading him to the Utah Jazz. Having not played in the 2024-25 season thus far, Tucker and the Clippers successfully orchestrated this exit strategy. The Jazz also acquire center Mo Bamba and a future second-round pick, while sending forward Drew Eubanks and guard Patty Mills to Los Angeles.
The Phoenix Suns have strengthened their frontcourt by acquiring center Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for guard Josh Okogie, which also involves a swap of second-round selections between the two teams. Lastly, the Lakers made headlines again by trading guard D'Angelo Russell and forward Maxwell Lewis, along with three second-round picks, to the Brooklyn Nets. In return, Los Angeles acquires forward Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Shake Milton, adding much-needed perimeter defense and floor spacing to complement stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
