NBA Postpones Game Amid Ongoing Wildfires in Los Angeles
The NBA announced that the game scheduled for Thursday between the visiting Charlotte Hornets and the Los Angeles Lakers has been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The league confirmed that the matchup will be rescheduled at a later date, expressing their support for the affected community in a statement. The NBA's message extended to local firefighters and first responders, highlighting their bravery during this challenging time.
In addition to the NBA's announcement, the NHL also postponed a game set for Wednesday between the Calgary Flames and the Los Angeles Kings due to the same circumstances. The NFL released a statement confirming that they still plan to hold Monday's playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, while closely monitoring the situation along with the NFL Players Association. Should the need arise, the league is prepared to relocate the game to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick addressed reporters on Tuesday, revealing that some of his family members were among those evacuated from their homes as a result of the wildfires. He expressed concern for the residents of the Palisades area, emphasizing the impact of the wildfires on his family and the community at large. As the Lakers prepared to begin a five-game homestand with the now-postponed game against the Hornets, nearly 180,000 residents in the Los Angeles area faced evacuation orders, with significant destruction reported and the full extent of the damage still being assessed.
