NBA All-Star Game Reveal: First Ten Players Announced

The NBA has announced the initial ten players selected for this year's All-Star Game during a segment on TNT's pregame show ahead of a doubleheader. This year's selection process involved fan voting (50 percent), player voting (25 percent), and input from a media panel (25 percent), culminating in the selection of five starters from each of the Eastern and Western Conferences. Each conference has two guards and three frontcourt players named.
For the Eastern Conference, the selected starters include New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. The Western Conference's selected starters feature Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokić, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant.
This year, the All-Star Game will introduce a new format comprising a four-team tournament, each with eight players. Notably, there will be no traditional captains; instead, general managers will oversee team selections from Inside the NBA analysts, including Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith. Candace Parker will serve as an honorary GM for the fourth team, which will consist of the winning squad from the Rising Stars tournament, a competition featuring first- and second-year NBA players alongside G League stars. The semifinal and final matches of the tournament will be decided by the first teams to reach or exceed the 40-point threshold. While ten players have been revealed, 14 additional reserves will be disclosed on January 30, with the draft for the 24 All-Stars taking place on February 6.
In the context of current performances, three players stand out as potential leaders for their All-Star teams. Should an MVP vote occur today, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would likely be the frontrunner, averaging 32.0 points on 53.0 percent shooting, along with 6.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game for the 36-7 Thunder. This record ties them with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the best in the league, and Gilgeous-Alexander recently showcased his ability with a remarkable 54-point game against the Utah Jazz. Additionally, Nikola Jokić solidified his selection, receiving the most votes among Western Conference frontcourt players. His current stats reflect a career-best 30.1 points per game alongside 13.2 rebounds and 9.9 assists, contributing to the Nuggets' 27-16 record, which places them fourth in the West. Lastly, Giannis Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP and the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, is having an impressive season, averaging 31.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, helping elevate the Bucks to a 24-17 mark after overcoming an early 2-8 start.
This year's All-Star Weekend is scheduled to take place at the Chase Center in San Francisco, home to the Golden State Warriors, beginning on Friday, February 14, and concluding on Sunday, February 16.
