Mikal Bridges Secures Contract Extension with New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have officially agreed to a four-year contract extension with wing Mikal Bridges, valued at $150 million. This information was confirmed by agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler. The deal includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and also features a trade kicker.
Some NBA executives speculated that Bridges might enter next season on an expiring contract and potentially seek a deal closer to $200 million in the open market the following summer. This extension comes shortly after reports in June indicated that Bridges was involved in trade discussions, as announced by Frank Isola of SiriusXM NBA Radio. The Knicks acquired Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets on June 25, 2024, in exchange for a significant collection of draft picks, thereby strengthening their roster.
Bridges's addition to the Knicks reunites him with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. However, Donte DiVincenzo was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, alongside Julius Randle, for Karl-Anthony Towns just three months later. When the Knicks secured Bridges, he had two seasons remaining on a four-year contract worth $90.9 million, which he initially signed with the Phoenix Suns in October 2021. After being traded to the Nets in a deal involving Kevin Durant in February 2023, Bridges emerged as a key player for the Knicks. With strong performances, including an average of 19.6 points per game in the 2023-24 season while shooting 43.6% from the field, he showcased his defensive capabilities and contributed significantly to the team. Despite facing some inconsistencies, Bridges played a pivotal role in guiding the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.
